Honoring Four Oakland Heroes

“Honoring Four Oakland Heroes” pays tribute to the four Oakland police officers who were struck down in the line of duty on March 21, 2009: Officer John Hege and Sergeants Mark Dunakin, Ervin Romans and Daniel Sakai.  The piece portrays the four officers in order of their passing as uniformed angels hovering above Oakland with the police shield crossed in black as a symbol of all four men passing in the line of duty.

This is a leather mosaic by Philip Long. It is a memorial to the four Oakland Police Officers killed in the line of duty on March 21, 2009. On that day Sergeants Dunakin, Romans, Sakai and Officer Hege gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect the people of Oakland.
